JESPY House: A Community-Based Mission
In 1978, JESPY House was established in South Orange, New Jersey with a mission to advance independence for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). Started by our visionary founders who felt that adults with I/DD deserved an inclusive community where they could learn to live independently, JESPY has grown from first serving four clients to now serving 260 adult clients ages 18 and up.
JESPYís whole-life services promote choice and self-direction and provide for our clients in every facet of their lives. Our much-needed services include residential options, clinical and behavioral health services, social wellness and expressive arts, athletics and fitness, case management, daily life skills training, vocational services, and aging-in-place initiatives.
For 18 months more than 100 weekly virtual programs sustained the necessary social and cognitive connections our clients needed, allowing for skill-building, learning of new hobbies, and the chance to meet new friends. In May 2021, we reopened our doors for onsite programs with limited capacity.†
Clients didnít skip a beat as they attended in-person programs that began with favorites like Art Group, Creative Writing, Movie Nights, and our casual Cafť to catch up with one another inperson.
Your support to It's A JESPY Day
will allow us to continue providing specialized programs and services for all clients. Our goal is for each client to lead a full and rewarding life that promotes independence and individual choice while providing social interaction within an inclusive community.
